FAQs about roof design aesthetics
Homeowners should choose a GAF roof that truly complements their home, reflects their taste, and impresses future buyers. The GAF Virtual Home Remodeler allows homeowners to upload images of their own home to get an idea of the shingle styles that may look best on their roof. However, the best way for homeowners to design the look of their roof is to get matched with a GAF certified contractor1 to guide them through the process.
1Contractors enrolled in GAF certification programs are not employees or agents of GAF, and GAF does not control or otherwise supervise these independent businesses. Contractors may receive benefits, such as loyalty rewards points and discounts on marketing tools from GAF for participating in the program and offering GAF enhanced warranties, which require the use of a minimum amount of GAF products. Your dealings with a Contractor, and any services they provide to you, are subject to the Contractor Terms of Use. Visit www.gaf.com/gaf-contractor-terms-of-use for details
GAF Timberline HDZ® RS Shingles can be used to comply with both the Cool Roof Requirements of Title 24 and the LA County Green Building Standards Code.2 They may also help contribute to potential cooling cost savings.3
2 Refers to Cool Roof Requirements for steep-slope residential buildings of 2025 Title 24, Part 6, of the California Code of Regulations and the Green Building Standards Code of Los Angeles County. See applicable codes for details.
3 Energy cost savings are not guaranteed, and the amount of savings, if any, may vary based on factors such as climate zone, utility rates, radiative properties of roofing products, insulation levels, HVAC equipment efficiency, and other factors.
A high-pitched roof may account for up to 40% of your home's curb appeal. Bold colors, high-contrast blends, or dark shades can easily dominate the facade if not balanced carefully with siding and trim. Multidimensional shingles with heavy shadow lines showcase their texture best on steep angles.
Because lower slopes may be less visible from street level, intense or highly textured colors may not be as impactful. Darker or richer color tones often work better here to maintain visual presence, whereas lighter neutrals can fade into the background.
